Bleeding emergencies are so critical, a person could die from blood loss within five minutes. With this in mind, as we’ve seen so often with other life-threatening events, bystanders near the victim(s) simply can’t call 911 and wait for professional emergency responders to arrive. They have to become the first responders themselves, springing into action with the knowledge they’ve been supplied with then and there. It’s why SOS Technologies is proud to be involved with the Stop The Bleed national campaign to encourage bystanders – including the ones within your company – to become trained on how to quickly stop blood loss and provide care.
Let’s take a closer look at how you can transition your employees into proactive mode with this highly effective program and product line.
Three Steps To Stop The Bleed
- First, locate where the bleeding on the victim is occurring. Once you identify the area, apply steady, firm pressure on the wound with both hands.
- Next, we want to apply dressing to the wound. Use bandages or clothing to apply the same amount of pressure to the bleeding site.
- In some events, the bleeding may not stop with dressing from bandages alone. Don’t panic – applying a tourniquet is the third step you can follow to stem the bleeding. Place a tourniquet high on the extremity above the wound, which you may be able to do without removing clothing. The tourniquet will have a strap – pull that strap through the buckle, twist its rod tightly, then secure the rod with the tourniquet’s clasp or Velcro strap.A second tourniquet may be required to apply right next to the first one if the bleeding doesn’t stop.
We not only incorporate bleeding control training complete with real life scenarios within our programs but also offer the bleeding control kits, tourniquets and wound care products you need in-house to act on the spot. Whether you store these items in a centralized area or need to take your bleeding control resources off site (such as a company retreat), you can ensure easy, efficient access to tourniquets, gauze and more.
From educating your team on the “String of Survival” to tourniquet application and wound packing, we’ve got the course you need to transform your workplace into a fully prepared environment that’s ready for an event where traumatic bleeding occurs.
